On Behalf of the Back to School of Rhode Island Board of Directors and Steering Committee Members, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your support in making this year’s event a success.  Due to your commitment we were able to distribute 16,000 backpacks and school supplies to multiple families, children and communities.

The Back to School Committee organized twelve (12) community-based sites across Rhode Island. In a single day our volunteers distributed backpacks and school supplies to over 16,000 students and provided families with a day filled with educational information, resources, entertainment, food and music. The Back to School yearly event actively engages families in their children’s education and provides students with the tools they need to start a new school year. 

For the past twenty four years, the Back to School of Rhode Island committee has worked diligently to keep the momentum growing. Starting out with a modest event where we distributed 600 plastic bags with school supplies at West End Community Center.  A year after expanding to several sites, reaching thousands of families statewide such as; Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Cranston, Woonsocket, Cumberland, West Warwick, and Newport. Our strong community partnerships across the state have enabled us to expand this one-day event to a true celebration of youth and education.

We ask you to please continue your commitment with the Back to School of Rhode Island to help make the 24th Anniversary of our Annual Back to School event a success.  Now, more than ever, working families need our help to make sure that children have appropriate school supplies at the start of the school year. Your engagement and commitment will ensure that we are able to distribute free backpacks full of school supplies to at least 20,000 students across Rhode Island in 2023.
